A death-panel report says the majority of those who died during British Columbia’s extreme heat wave last summer elderly and vulnerable people living in poorer neighbourhoods. Record temperatures surpassed 40 Celsius for days in the heat dome across the province, resulting in 619 heat-related deaths. The B-C Coroners Service report is calling for a co-ordinated heat-alert system in British Columbia to prevent loss of life in hot-weather emergencies. It came a day after the provincial government announced a two-stage heat response system.
