Chairlift operations have resumed at Vancouver Island’s Mount Washington following a snowstorm that left dozens of people stranded in a lodge. Sheila Rivers of Mount Washington Alpine Resort says more than a metre of snow fell in less than 48 hours on the weekend, causing avalanches that made conditions unsafe. She says about 20 boy scouts and a dozen other people spent Saturday night at the lodge, adding the scouts had a late-night nacho party and enjoyed movies the next day. Rivers says the one-metre base measured last week is now nearing three metres.
